Gym Personal Trainer

Job Description

The Trainer provides client service and training, plans and delivers individualized and group exercise programs, maintains professional conduct, and supports the gym’s overall fitness objectives. The role includes equipment upkeep, record keeping, member engagement, and collaboration with management and the fitness team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all club policies and procedures as directed by management.
  • Administer and evaluate client health history questionnaires and physiological data.
  • Plan and implement individualized and group exercise programs (e.g., aerobics, flexibility/PNF stretching, circuit training, sports performance, general fitness).
  • Determine program format and content based on client needs; demonstrate and instruct proper techniques.
  • Set up, monitor, and return training equipment in serviceable condition; schedule cleaning and repairs.
  • Advise participants on class/program policies and procedures.
  • Track client progress; maintain complete and accurate files, Aphelion records, and signed attendance sheets.
  • Make follow-up calls to assess satisfaction and schedule future sessions.
  • Perform floor duties, guiding and assisting clients as required.
  • Conduct group exercise classes and programs per the gym’s fitness plan.
  • Promote member retention through ideas and implementation with management.
  • Keep all equipment clean, safe, and in proper working order.
  • Continue fitness education (accredited classes, seminars, ongoing learning) and share knowledge with staff.
  • Act as a consultant to other fitness team members when needed.
  • Return calls within 24 hours; be punctual for appointments and meetings.
  • Maintain professional attire, correct uniform, and name tag while on site.
  • Work as a team to meet department goals and monthly targets.
  • Maintain regular attendance and a positive attitude.
  • Comply with all lawful and reasonable instructions; devote working hours exclusively to company business.
  • Do not enter into contracts/commitments or make public representations on behalf of the company without written consent.
  • Observe all company Policies and Procedures.

Requirement

  • Education/Certification: Relevant fitness certifications (e.g., personal training, group fitness); CPR/First Aid preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience as a personal trainer or fitness instructor.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of exercise science, assessments, safe training practices, and equipment handling.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, customer service, motivation, and teamwork.
  • Professional Standards: Professional appearance, punctuality, policy compliance, and confidentiality.
  • Availability: Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings/weekends.
  • Development: Commitment to ongoing education and staying current with industry best practices.
